Andros Kourtellos is Department Chair and Professor of Economics at the University of Cyprus. He is a member of the Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility and the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity (HCEO) Global Working Group at the University of Chicago, a Senior Fellow of the Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis (RCEA), and a member of the Academic Council of the Economic Research Centre (ERC) of the University of Cyprus. He has recently been awarded Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowships.
His research focuses on econometrics, intergenerational mobility, social interactions, economic growth, and macroeconomic forecasting. His methodological contributions span theory and applications, including nonlinear and spatial econometrics, model averaging, and mixed-frequency data. He has developed estimation and inference methods for threshold regression models with endogenous thresholds and for models with threshold social interaction effects, which are useful for studying multiple equilibria and poverty traps. More recently, he has applied these models to identify status traps in intergenerational mobility. His work has appeared in leading journals such as the Economic Journal, European Economic Review, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, and the Journal of Econometrics.
Kourtellos holds a BSc from the University of Cyprus and an MSc and PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and has held visiting appointments at Virginia Tech, Wisconsin–Madison, and the University of Chicago.
