Durham University Business School is organising and chairing a special session on “Emerging Trends in Lending Markets: Housing, Fintech, and the Real Economy.” This session will showcase high-quality research exploring the evolving dynamics in lending markets and their effects on economic performance, regulation, and financial wellbeing. Authors who are interested in participating in this session should explicitly state their interest during the submission process.
Nurturing Excellence in Finance and Accounting Research
The conference will host a PhD Mentoring Session — a comprehensive and competitive program tailored for PhD students specializing in Finance and Accounting. During this session, PhD students attending the conference will have the unparalleled opportunity to engage with seasoned mentors, gaining targeted guidance to enhance the impact of their research.
Additionally, PhD students will explore potential career paths, receiving valuable advice on navigating the academic landscape, the job market, and their professional development.
This session is particularly well-suited for students in the developmental stages of their PhD theses who also want to seize the opportunity to showcase their work via a pitching-style presentation, share insights and discoveries with peers, and receive constructive feedback from distinguished mentors.
The following awards will be presented based on recommendations by the scientific committee and conference chairs: Conference Best Paper, Best Paper in Finance, Best Paper in Accounting, and Best Doctoral Paper. These are supported by the «XM Research Awards» scheme aiming to recognise outstanding scientific work presented during the conference.
The conference warmly invites the submission of high-caliber research papers in the fields of finance and accounting, eligible for presentation in either regular sessions or the dedicated PhD mentoring session.
The conference will take place at Adams Beach Hotel & Spa in Ayia Napa, Cyprus.
We extend our gratitude to the organising institutions, the Cyprus University of Technology and King’s College London, as well as the supporting institutions, Durham University and XM.
FMARC 2024 is enriched by the esteemed keynote speakers, Ane Tamayo and Neil Pearson, alongside the invaluable expertise of the PhD Mentors, Maria Loumioti, Mark Clatworthy, Irem Demirci, and Luca Del Viva.
We enthusiastically look forward to having a high-quality FMARC 2024, featuring cutting-edge research papers and a delightful stay in Ayia Napa, a Mediterranean resort town on the southeast coast of Cyprus.
Ayia Napa is Cyprus’ largest tourist resort. In 2017, the resort welcomed 700,000 tourists and hosted 5 million overnight stays, accounting for around 30% of Cyprus’ total overnight stays.
Since the 2010s the city has aimed to enhance its tourist offerings. Their goal was to deter unruly groups of young tourists and transform into the “best and most cosmopolitan tourist resort of the Mediterranean“ by 2030. Initiatives include closing problematic establishments since 2013, improving infrastructure, hotels, restaurants and introducing new facilities like a marina and an underwater museum.
The vision aligns with the Cyprus Tourism Strategy of 2017, envisioning Ayia Napa as one of Europe’s top three beach and nightclubbing holiday destinations, offering a superior beach and marine experience in Cyprus for young adults, complemented by international standard beach clubs and nightlife. The strategy aimed to enhance Ayia Napa’s quality rating from 3.4/5 to 4.4/5.
Furthermore, Ayia Napa earned recognition as a Prime City Destination from the Oxford Business Assembly. In 2018, it was honoured with the ‘Flag of Europe’ for investment and innovation attractiveness and the International Certificate of Excellence in Investment and Innovation (ICEII).
