Vassiliki Bamiatzi

    Vasiliki (Vassiliki) Bamiatzi is Professor of Strategy and International Business and Head of the Strategy and Marketing Department at the University of Sussex Business School. Her work focuses on how firms of all sizes navigate adverse or shifting environments, including economic crises, declining industries and geopolitical conflicts, with a particular emphasis on corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and international business. She has published widely in leading journals such as Strategic Management Journal, British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, International Business Review and Risk Analysis, and serves on several editorial boards and special issue teams in world‑elite outlets.

    Her current research explores how corporate social responsibility can act as a strategic response to crises, including cyber incidents, pandemics and war, as well as the determinants of post‑merger performance and entrepreneurial value creation. Before joining Sussex in 2019, she held academic posts at the University of Liverpool Management School, Leeds University Business School and Manchester Business School, following earlier industry experience as a business and regional development consultant in Greece. She is also actively engaged in academic leadership, having co‑chaired the 2023 British Academy of Management Conference and led multiple research hubs, programmes and international initiatives.
