Juan Manuel joined the Department of Business Administration of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2005. He is full professor since 2016, and was the head of the Department (that includes the areas of Accounting, Finance, Management and Marketing) between 2017 and 2023. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting by the University of Valencia. Before joining Carlos III he was a lecturer (assistant professor) in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Lancaster University, and a Marie Curie researcher at the University of Manchester. His research has been published in accounting academic journals such as Journal of Accounting and Economics, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Abacus, Accounting and Business Research, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy and European Accounting Review, as well as in finance journals, like Journal of Banking and Finance or Journal of Corporate Finance . He is joint editor, since 2016, of Accounting and Business Research, and he also serves in the editorial board of the European Accounting Review and of the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting. His former PhD students are currently faculty members at various levels at leading institutions worldwide. He is currently, and since 2021, member of the Management Committee of the European Accounting Association.
