Spyridon Lagaras

    Spyridon Lagaras is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research spans corporate finance, corporate restructuring, labor economics, and entrepreneurship, with a particular emphasis on how firms’ organizational choices and labor market frictions shape worker outcomes, firm performance, and economic dynamism. His work frequently employs large administrative and linked employer-employee datasets to study human capital, firm boundaries, and the interaction between financial and labor market decisions.

    Professor Lagaras’s research has been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics, and has received research support from organizations such as the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. His work has also been presented at major international conferences and seminars.

    He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an M.S. in Finance from ALBA Graduate Business School (The American College of Greece), an MBA from the Athens University of Economics and Business, and a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Review of Finance.
