About Limassol

Limassol, a city counting centuries of history, finds itself situated between two of the island's most renowned ancient kingdoms: Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west.
Referred to as 'Lemessos' by the locals, it stands as Cyprus' second-largest urban area (following the capital, Nicosia), with its municipality holding the country's highest population count at 235,000 inhabitants as per the 2011 Census. Limassol stands as one of Europe's rapidly burgeoning modern metropolises. The city's various facets, including lifestyle, public construction undertakings, and education, undergo continual enhancements. A crowning achievement in this endeavour is the Limassol Marina – an upscale waterfront development that seamlessly integrates sophisticated residences with a comprehensive marina facility, complete with its own array of shopping and dining establishments. Furthermore, the renewed coastline, extending for a distance of 15 kilometres, is now adorned with hotels, beachside bars, and cafes, adorned intermittently with groves of eucalyptus trees. These are connected by a promenade, a favoured route for both strollers and joggers alike. In more recent times, Limassol has evolved into one of the Mediterranean's most prominent commercial ports. It has ascended to a position of significance as a hub for tourism, trade, and offshore enterprises. The city functions as the nucleus for business and finance in Cyprus, housing the headquarters of numerous international shipping and financial firms.

Limassol, the City of Wine

It is beyond question that the prosperity of Limassol is not a recent accomplishment. Dating back to antiquity, Cyprus’ source of revenue has been wine, a libation deemed indispensable during religious ceremonies, celebrations, and even times of mourning, as historical accounts attest. The tradition of wine production in Limassol dates back thousands of years, intertwined with the cultivation of vineyards. Particularly, in the 20th century and onwards, this practice played a pivotal role in the city’s well-being, establishing it as the focal point of winemaking establishments.
